The FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus is a continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) sensor made by Abbott. It sits on the back of your upper arm and measures glucose every minute, day and night, so you can see your levels and trends without routine finger-prick tests.
How it works
- Apply the sensor to the back of the upper arm with the built-in applicator.
- Readings are sent to the FreeStyle Libre app on a compatible smartphone.
- Optional alarms warn you if your glucose goes too high or too low.
- Each sensor lasts 15 days, then you replace it.
Who it is for
People with diabetes who check their glucose regularly. Many people get sensors on NHS prescription through their GP or diabetes team; others buy them privately. Talk to your diabetes team before changing how you manage your diabetes.
Tips for a good wear
- Clean the skin with an alcohol wipe and let it dry first.
- Avoid areas with scars, moles or where you inject insulin.
- The sensor is water-resistant for showering and swimming within the stated depth and time.
- Confirm with a finger-prick test if symptoms do not match your readings.
