Thrush treatment from a pharmacy: what to buy and when to see a GP

Vaginal thrush is a common yeast infection. Symptoms include itching and soreness around the vagina and a white discharge that is usually odourless. It is not a sexually transmitted infection.

Treatments you can buy

Products are sent in plain, discreet packaging.

See a GP or sexual health clinic instead if

  • it is your first time having thrush symptoms
  • you are under 16 or over 60
  • you are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • you have had thrush more than twice in 6 months
  • you have unusual discharge, pain, bleeding, fever or sores
  • treatment has not worked within 7–14 days

Helping to prevent it

Wash with water and an emollient rather than perfumed soaps, wear cotton underwear and avoid very tight clothing.
