Flu spreads quickly once the weather turns, and for some people it leads to serious illness. The NHS flu vaccination is free for those most at risk, and you can have it at Anfield Pharmacy on Oakfield Road.
Who can have a free NHS flu jab
- Adults aged 65 and over
- Adults with certain long-term health conditions, such as diabetes, asthma, heart or kidney disease
- Pregnant women
- Carers, and people living with someone who has a weakened immune system
- Residents of care homes
- Frontline health and social care workers
If you are not eligible, ask our team about a private flu vaccination.
When to have it
Autumn to early winter is the best time, so that you are protected before flu starts to circulate widely. Protection builds over about two weeks and the vaccine is updated every year to match the strains expected that season.
What happens at the appointment
The appointment takes about 15 minutes. Our pharmacist checks a few questions about your health and allergies, gives the vaccination in your upper arm, and asks you to wait a short time afterwards. Mild arm soreness or feeling tired for a day or two is common.
