NHS Pharmacy First in Liverpool: seven conditions your pharmacist can treat

Waiting days for a GP appointment for something simple is frustrating. With NHS Pharmacy First, our pharmacist at Anfield Pharmacy can assess you and, where it is clinically right, supply NHS treatment on the same visit. There is no charge for the consultation.

The seven conditions covered

  • Sinusitis – ages 12 and over
  • Sore throat – ages 5 and over
  • Earache – ages 1 to 17
  • Infected insect bites – ages 1 and over
  • Impetigo – ages 1 and over
  • Shingles – ages 18 and over
  • Urinary tract infection – women aged 16 to 64

Age limits are set by the NHS, not by the pharmacy.

What happens in the consultation

You will have a private consultation in our consultation room. The pharmacist asks about your symptoms, checks anything relevant such as your throat or ear, and follows the NHS clinical pathway for that condition. If treatment is appropriate, including a prescription medicine, it is supplied there and then. If you need a GP or urgent care, we will tell you and refer you.

Do I need to book?

You can walk in, but booking a slot means you are seen at a time that suits you and the pharmacist is free. Choose the condition you need and pick a time.

What to bring

  • Your name, date of birth and address
  • A list of any medicines you take
  • Details of allergies
  • For a child, an adult with parental responsibility
