Creams give a strong hold that you can adjust by how much you apply. Seals are pre-cut strips with no ooze and less cleaning up. Which is better comes down to how your denture fits and what you find easiest.
What are the options?
- Fixodent Complete Original: an everyday cream.
- Fixodent Plus Best Hold: a stronger hold for more active days.
- Fixodent Plus Dual Protection Antibacterial: hold plus antibacterial action.
- Poligrip Ultra and Poligrip Flavour Free: zinc-free creams, with a flavour-free option that does not affect the taste of food.
- Seabond seals for uppers and lowers: soft strips you trim and press on.
How much cream should I use?
Less than most people think. Apply a few small dots or short strips to a clean, dry denture, away from the edges. If cream oozes out when you bite down, you have used too much.
Are seals better for lower dentures?
Many people find lower dentures harder to keep in place. Seals can help because they do not wash away as easily, but try both to see what works for you.
How do I remove fixative?
Rinse with warm water, remove the denture with a gentle rocking motion, then brush the denture and your gums with a soft brush.
When should I see a dentist?
If you need more and more fixative, or the denture rubs or feels loose, it probably needs adjusting or relining. Fixative should not be covering for a poor fit.
